The Keystone Cemetery is also known as the Mountain View Cemetery due to its perfect view of Mount Rushmore. The Keystone Cemetery is a cemetery still open to the public today, and it is located in Keystone, South Dakota. This cemetery is known for having a view of Mount Rushmore, and also because the workers who constructed the famous mountain are buried there. These workers constructed Mount Rushmore from 1927 to 1941, and there were 400 people who participated in the project. The conditions of the job were dangerous, but thankfully, no one died while on the site. After the workers passed, they were buried at the Keystone Cemetery to honor their commitment to Mount Rushmore. Back in 1900, the Keystone Cemetery was officially built by Patrick F. Hayes. The very first person to be buried there was his daughter, Catherine Hayes, who was only 18 months old upon her passing.
Cemeteries are perfect locations to look for ghosts, and this one in particular has the title of one of the spookiest cemeteries in South Dakota. The reason why is because several guests report seeing the old workers roaming the cemetery as ghosts. Although none of the ghosts are identified by name, many guests report ghost sightings. Reports of strange figures wandering around were made by several visitors, all of the spirits of different shapes and sizes. Another thing to look out for are sounds. Along with reporting seeing the ghosts, visitors claim to have heard voices and laughter when no one else is around. If you listen very closely, you can hear muffled noises like whispers as well. The Keystone Cemetery is still open today, and as time goes on, hopefully more ghost sightings will come about. Each ghost has been friendly so far and hasn’t bothered any visitors.
