Construction of the castle began in the 1920s under the dedicated efforts of Harry D. Andrews, a Boy Scout Troop leader and World War I veteran. Inspired by the castles he encountered during his service in Europe, Andrews meticulously built the castle using stones sourced from the nearby Little Miami River. To reinforce the structure, he even cemented milk cartons with cement. The name “Loveland Castle” pays homage to the location where Andrews was stationed during the war. After years of labor, the castle stood as a testament to his passion and craftsmanship.
Upon Andrews’ passing in 1981, he bequeathed the castle to his Boy Scout Troop. Since then, the castle has undergone updates and renovations, and it now houses a museum that showcases its history. While Andrews may no longer be present physically, there are reports and beliefs among visitors that his spirit lingers within the castle walls. Regular museum attendees have recounted witnessing the apparition of a floating man, which is often interpreted as Andrews himself. It is believed that when this shadowy figure is seen, it serves as a forewarning of impending mishaps or accidents within the castle, suggesting that Andrews continues to watch over the place he dedicated his life to.
However, Andrews is not the sole ghostly presence attributed to Loveland Castle. Legend has it that a woman who perished in a nearby moonshine explosion also haunts the vicinity. Referred to as “The White Lady,” she is frequently spotted sitting in the castle’s courtyard or strolling alongside the river at the rear of the property. Descriptions of her appearance involve a flowing dress that adds to her ethereal allure. Intriguingly, every time someone attempts to communicate with her or catch her attention, she vanishes without a trace, leaving visitors both captivated and mystified.
The paranormal activity reported at Loveland Castle offers an extra layer of fascination to an already remarkable landmark, capturing the imagination of those who visit and prompting contemplation of the spiritual forces that may reside within its walls.
