The Vergennes Opera House is located in Vergennes, Vermont. It can be found on the second floor of the city hall. It was originally built in 1897 as part of a celebrated tradition of community based opera houses. The opera house hosted many events, including political rallies, graduations, and debates, until it fell into disuse in the early 1970s. It went unused for twenty four years. The Vergennes Opera House was reopened in July of 1997 by The Friends of the Vergennes Opera House organization. This is a non profit group composed completely of volunteers, who raised more than 1.5 million dollars to put toward the building. Today, the opera house is home to many performances, from plays to orchestras. It can also be rented for weddings, meetings, and other special events. It is a staple of the community and the work that was put into saving it shows the value that the arts hold in society. 

The Vergennes Opera House, a historical building of Vermont, is also known for its paranormal activity. Most of the paranormal activity takes place during live events, such as theater shows. Visitors and staff have reported unknown figures wandering around backstage, as well as odd shadows and apparitions. Lights and other electronic devices are known to turn on and off on their own.Home to an array of odd activity and various ghosts, the Vergennes Opera House is known to have chairs moving around on their own and loud banging noises coming from the balcony. The balcony seems particularly haunted, as the sound of footsteps can be heard walking halfway down to the stairs that lead to the balcony, but stop when anyone goes to investigate. The hauntings of the Vergennes Opera House are still largely a mystery, but paranormal activity certainly seems to have a particular liking for this venue.
