History
Built in 1926, the Parq Central Hotel was originally known as Santa Fe Railway Hospital and was used to treat injured railway workers. During the 1980’s, the hospital was repurposed into a mental institution for children and had its name changed to Memorial Hospital before it was finally transformed into the Hotel Parq Central in 2010. The building is famous for its Italian architecture on the exterior. Some of the medical decor has been preserved within the building. The surgeon’s quarters are still standing in a separate building. Today, the hotel is open to the public and is a great source of tourism for the city. The hotel has been visited by a variety of paranormal investigators and has also been featured in the TV show Ghost Hunters, in which the hosts claim they spoke to a former patient of Memorial Hospital.
Hauntings
There have been reports of paranormal activity at this location long before it was a hotel. Patients of Memorial Hospital experienced apparition sightings and having their bed sheets pulled off of them in the middle of the night. Staff also reported hearing whispering and seeing objects move on their own. They often felt the sensation of being watched and great heaviness in the building. Guests of the modernized hotel have felt the presence of unseen beings and reported the sound of strange voices and shuffling in the stairwells despite no one being there. Others felt cold spots and even saw objects floating. An apparition of a woman was known to frequent the right wing of the top floor. She would often watch people as they walked through the halls. To this day, she can be spotted wandering the third floor by hotel guests, supposedly keeping a watchful eye on others.
