The Haunting of Bragg Road in Texas
Bragg Road, located in the dense Big Thicket forest of Southern Texas, holds a mysterious reputation due to the sightings of ghostly orbs known as the Saratoga Lights. This old railway line, originally constructed to transport supplies during the 19th-century oil boom, has since transformed into an 8-mile-long vehicle road. While during the day, Bragg Road appears like any other forest trail, it is during the nighttime that the strange phenomenon occurs. The History of the Bragg Road
Bragg Road, formerly a railway line connecting the town of Bragg to Beaumont, was established during the oil boom of the 1800s. However, over time, the railway became obsolete, and the population of Bragg started to decline. Many residents were forced to seek employment elsewhere, leading to the transformation of Bragg into a ghost town.
It was not until 1934 that the railway line was dismantled, and locals repurposed it as a vehicle road spanning 8 miles through the Big Thicket forest. The town of Bragg, although diminished in population, continued to exist, with the road serving as a connection to neighboring areas.
Is the Bragg Road Haunted?
One of the most notable phenomena associated with Bragg Road is the Saratoga Lights. These mysterious lights have been reported by both locals and visitors since the early 1900s, though sightings have decreased with the advent of electricity in the area. Described as orb-like lights, typically the size of a pumpkin, the Saratoga Lights appear in varying colors, predominantly blue-ish white, but also occasionally green or yellow.
The sightings usually occur at night, shortly after drivers embark on their journey down Bragg Road. The orbs manifest in front of vehicles, seemingly hovering and dancing in the darkness.
