Hotel Jerome, situated on East Main Street in Aspen, Colorado, holds a rich history dating back to its construction in the 1880s by Jerome Wheeler. Having served guests for over a century, this iconic hotel has also gained a reputation for its paranormal activity, captivating both guests and enthusiasts of the supernatural.
One of the most well-known haunted locations within the hotel is Room 310. In 1936, a ten-year-old boy and his family stayed in this room. Tragically, the young boy met his demise in the hotel pool, drowning in a heart-wrenching accident. Numerous reports from guests staying in Room 310 recount sightings of an apparition resembling the young boy. Witnesses describe the ghostly figure appearing dripping wet, leaving behind wet footprints before abruptly vanishing.
Hotel Jerome seems to host a variety of other lingering spirits. Henry O’ Callister, a wealthy individual who amassed his fortune through mining, is believed to have suffered a broken heart after his lover, Clarissa Wellington, was denied her father’s permission to marry him. Throughout the hotel, guests have reported hearing sorrowful sobbing believed to emanate from the lovesick Henry as he roams the hallways in eternal despair.
Another ghostly presence associated with the hotel is Katie Kerrigan, a former maid. Katie’s story involves her being a target of bullying by her jealous co-workers, who resented the attention she received from male guests. In an act of malice, her colleagues told Katie that her kitten had drowned in a nearby pond. Distraught, Katie rushed to the pond and fell in herself. Although she survived the incident, Katie succumbed to pneumonia shortly after. Unlike the spiteful spirits she encountered in her earthly life, Katie’s apparition is described as benevolent. She is said to perform tasks associated with her former role as a maid, such as turning down the bedding, providing a helping hand even from beyond the grave.
These ghostly encounters and lingering spirits have contributed to Hotel Jerome’s reputation as a paranormal hotspot, captivating those with an interest in the supernatural.
