Fort Peck Theater in Haunted Montana

The Fort Peck Theater in Montana sits in a town with what may seem like an unusual history to most people. Although the first United States settlement at Fort Peck dates back to 1867, enjoying its status as a highly sought-after trading post and housing a federal agency for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, this town was actually fairly short-lived. The current Fort Peck is located a couple of miles from the original settlement of the same name, and had its foundations laid in 1934. The Army Corps of Engineers was involved in the construction of the Fort Peck Dam, and the town was created as a temporary place for the workers to live. Perhaps because it included so many amenities of a real town, it became just that. One of these amenities was the Fort Peck Theater. Built with a wooden design resembling a Swiss Chalet, this theater was only meant to be a temporary structure but continues to be used for shows to this day.

Many visitors and staff report seeing more than just the shows on stage. Apparitions have been spotted many times throughout the building, and the most commonly seen ghost is that of a man in early 20th century workman’s clothing. Locals and ghost researchers alike have linked this phantom to a construction worker who was killed during the construction of the theater. Sounds of working men have also been heard many times when there was no one else in the theater, which many believe to mean that the ghost is still working on the building, even in death. No one has reported the feeling of anything malevolent from the spirit. There is even a belief that the ghost of the construction worker makes himself present to watch over people working at height, since it was a long fall that had originally taken his life.
